Konya Metropolitan Municapility was established in 1876 and it was regulated as a metropoliat municipality in 1989. Konya Metropolitan Municapility has been performing cultural, social and infrastructural facilities since then.
One of the most important facilities of Konya Metropolitan Municipality is KOMEK (Konya Vocational Training Centre) which is a centre for occupational courses and activities. Every year thousand of volunteer people are trained on various subjects.  Occupational Training Course Centres are under the umbrella of Konya Metropolitan Municipality train people at various ages and it has centres all over Konya. 
Some of the programmes that take place in KOMEK centres that have a high number of applications are clothing, stylist courses and house furnishing courses. Konya Metropolitan Municipality employs a lot of trainers to teach in Komek Centres.  Clothing Teachers who are employed by KOMEK have obligations to have bachelors’ degree and they have adequate training to give these lessons.
